A shot for young entrepreneurs: Viking Plaza Mall holds expo for kids to showcase products

Mall-goers at Viking Plaza Mall this weekend may notice that the people manning the expo booths aren’t of the normal age demographic. That’s because this weekend marks the mall’s first Kidz Biz day, in which children will be selling their own products.

Kids ages 6 to 17 are invited to take part in Kidz Biz Day on Saturday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We wanted to put it on to give the kids the opportunity to be some young entrepreneurs,” said Bri Netter, director of marketing at Viking Plaza Mall. “We have all the adult vendor shows so we wanted to give the kids a chance to sell some of their fun products.”

The products offered include baked goods, photography, arts and crafts, jewelry and more.

“It’s a fun thing for them to get to do and learn how to run their own little businesses,” Netter said. “We thought it would be fun to give kids the chance to earn some money off their hard work.”

So far, 22 children have signed up for the expo. There is a $5 fee to register for this event. Children who take part will be entered into a prize drawing and will receive a free pretzel from Pretzelmaker.
