Fire cancels classes at Minnewaska schools

A fire Thursday night at the Minnewaska High School has canceled all classes in the district for Friday, March 17.

According to a statement on the school district's website, a fire occurred sometime Thursday evening at the high school, which is on state Highway 28 between Glenwood and Starbuck.

No classes will be held in the district, according to information provided by the district.

The fire was discovered in a science room at Minnewaska Area High School, according to a statement from the school district.

The fire damage was limited to that room, however smoke and water spread into other areas and may have caused additional damage.

The fire marshal was at the scene late Thursday doing an investigation and a determination as to the cause of the fire has not yet been made.

No one was injured.
