By Forum News Service

Two people who survived an initial crash Wednesday night near Spicer were killed when they were struck by a third vehicle as they were standing near the accident scene in west-central Minnesota.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol the initial accident, which was reported at 7:27 p.m., involved a 2003 Volvo four-wheel drive wagon that was going west on North Shore Drive. At the intersection with state Highway 23 the Volvo was hit broadside by a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Shelby Davis, 22, of Willmar, that was going north on Highway 23.

Both drivers exited their respective vehicles and were talking in the median.

According to the State Patrol report, it’s believed the passenger of the Volvo was attempting to exit the vehicle.

At that point, a 2006 Chrysler 300 Touring, driven by Keven Henslin, 54, of Champlin that was going north on Highway 23, struck both the driver and the passenger of the Volvo.

The two died at the scene. The names of the victims are  expected to be released later today.

Henslin had non-life-threatening injuries and Davis had no apparent injuries, according to the State Patrol report.
