First Congregational Church tackles climate change

The First Congregational United Church of Christ in Alexandria invites the public to learn more about how humans are changing the climate and what they can do about it.

Jeanne Johnson of the Citizens Climate Lobby will present the talk on Thursday, April 3 at 6 p.m. at the church, located at 221 7th Avenue West, across from the new sheriff’s office.

“We are co-creators of the earth with God, so it’s important to learn all that we can about how we’re changing the climate and how we can reduce the human carbon footprint,” said Pastor Scott Keehn.

Johnson said she started the Alexandria Citizen’s Climate Lobby in 2010 after learning that climate change will most heavily impact the poor and vulnerable of the world.

“Climate change to me is the pre-eminent moral issue of the 21st century,” she said. “That’s why it’s important for the faith community to address it.”
