UPDATE 11:30 a.m. Blowing snow reducing visibility, closing some schools

Be careful out there. Blowing snow is casuing white-out conditions in Douglas County.

Alexandria schools are closing two hours early and Osakis schools will be closing at 12:30 p.m. today, Thursday. Some other schools in the area are closed, including Brandon-Evansville, Minnewaska and West Central Area.

The county is among 42 other counties in Minnesota that is under a winter weather advisory until 4 p.m. today.

Strong northwest winds, with gusts of up to 45 miles per hour, are greatly reducing visibility in wide-open areas.

There are also slippery patches of snow-covered roads because of the blowing and drifting snow.
