Children’s mental health series offered in Alexandria

The Children’s Mental Health and Emotional Development: A Practical Series will continue with It’s OK to Feel Angry: Working with Childhood Anger, Frustration and Power Struggles.

The session will be held Thursday, February 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC), Room 205.

Instructors Julie Trosvig, MSW, LGSW, and Joni Jacobson, MS, OTR/L, will focus on supporting and promoting the healthy social and emotional development of young children.

This series will address the cause, course and prevention of some of the most challenging behaviors. Understanding that it is acceptable to feel angry but not OK to express those feelings in a hurtful way will be the focus of this course.

The course will also focus on understanding and working with childhood frustrations, anger and power struggles.

Specific mental health disorders will be addressed. However, the emphasis will be on understanding, preventing and responding effectively to children’s needs.

This course is recommended for early childhood teachers, center staff, family child care providers, foster care providers, parents and teachers.

The course fee is $20, and continuing education certificates are available.
