UPDATE 7:30 A.M.: Alexandria firefighters respond to house fire

Alexandria firefighters responded to a house fire at 828 Westwood Drive in Alexandria shortly after 5 p.m. Monday.

Smoke and flames were reportedly coming from the basement portion of the house when a neighbor called 911.

No one was in the house when the fire was reported.

According to a news release, Alexandria Fire Department worked about three hours at the scene to knock down flames and venthilate the house. The structure was extensively damaged.

The State Fire Marshall's Office and Douglas County Sheriff's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.

Alexandria Police Department and North Ambulance also responded to the fire last night.

During the fire, the temperature was four below zero with a windchill of -18 degrees. No firefighters were injured.
