Fashion show being held to increase mental health awareness

The public is invited to attend a fashion show on Friday, October 4 at 4:30 p.m. at Viking Plaza in Alexandria. The show is free.

Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) fashion and marketing students, KXRA Broadcasting, and Viking Plaza are coming together to increase awareness of youth and mental health.

Students from the area will model the latest trends, and there will be a drawing for prizes. Attendees must be present to win.

A new survey from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) reveals that two-thirds of young adults have experience with mental problems.

To encourage these conversations and let people know it is available, the NAB recently unveiled a public service campaign, OK2TALK, to increase understanding and awareness about mental health.

The OK2TALK campaign includes television and radio ads and uses social media to invite teens and young adults to create the conversation about mental health.

"As a member of NAB, KXRA/KX92/Z99 is pleased to see a national movement turn into a local event," said Bruce McKirdy, sales manager/vice president of Paradis Broadcasting in Alexandria. "This is an issue that is deeply important to a community's health, and we are excited to be a part of it."
