Resorters Golf Tournament: Women's Division, Friday

Here's an update of the Women's Division Championship in the Resorters Golf Tournament being played at the Alexandria Golf Course after play concluded Friday.

Not even a hole-in-one could stop the former Minnewaska duo of Sarah Roering and Sam Falk from meeting up in the Women's Division final Saturday.

Elizabeth Strom's round was bittersweet after she got the first hole-in-one of her life but fell in a close 2-1 match against her Gustavus Adolphus teammate, Falk. Strom hit her favorite club, a 7-wood off the seventh box when the ball rolled to the edge of the cup and hung up for a split second before dropping in. That evened the match, but not for long as Falk persevered to punch her spot in the championship.

Joining her will be her former teammate with the Lakers. Roering won by the exact same score as she outlasted Concordia-St. Paul golfer Andrea Dwyer of Elk River.

Roering and Falk were both a part of the 2010 state championship team at Minnewaska. Now they will go head-to-head as Roering shoots for her second Resorters title and Falk tries to capture her first. They will tee off from No. 1 at 12:40 Saturday afternoon.

FALK, 2-1

Roering used three straight birdies on Nos. 7, 8 and 9 to build a lead she would never give back in a 2-1 victory over Dwyer.

The Colorado State University golfer had trailed by two holes after five, but her par win on No. 6 proved to be the start of a torrid run for her. Roering built her lead to 3-up with a birdie on No. 11, but Dwyer was able to reduce it by one after Roering shot a bogey on No. 12.

That's as close as Dwyer would get, though, as Roering's 2-up lead held up, with both players shooting pars on Nos. 14 through 17 to end the match.

STROM, 2-1

The match between Strom and Falk was a battle between soon to be juniors on the Gustavus Adolphus golf team, and Falk won the contest over her teammate, 2-1.

Falk took an early lead in the match with a birdie on No. 1, but a par by Strom on No. 3 retied the match.

After Falk shot a birdie on No. 6 to regain the lead, Strom knocked in her tee shot on the No. 7 par-three for a hole in one to retie the match.

Falk rebuilt her lead with pars on Nos. 8 and 9. But the 2-up lead only lasted for three holes, as Strom tied things up with a par on No. 11 and a birdie on No. 13.

The match remained tied for only one hole, as Falk shot a birdie on No. 14 and finished the match with a birdie on No. 17.
