Seven families recently saw relief from their transportation challenges at the Douglas County Car Care at Koep's Korner in Alexandria, sponsored by Anderson Funeral Home.

Four people received donated cars and three client cars were repaired. Two additional cars were evaluated but did not need repairs.

Kaleen Brown was thankful to receive a 1994 Cadillac Deville so that she won't have to walk three miles to and from work every day.

Dawn Hanson was overwhelmed to receive a 2004 PT Cruiser, meaning her brother would no longer have to drive her and her granddaughter around.

Both the Cadillac and the PT Cruiser were provided with a free car wash at Mike's Car Wash on Broadway.

Alexandria Motors detailed a 1998 Venture Van and a 1997 Chrysler Concorde. The van went to Jayda Jibben to help her care for her three children, and the Concorde went to Jim Ostenson so he could care for his medical and personal needs.

Volunteers Jim Korkowski, Jerry Wright and Neil Roers repaired three vehicles. They replaced an axle shaft, bearing hub, sway bar link, two tires and a fuel filter and removed some loose rattling metal from an exhaust.

The next Car Care will be held Saturday, August 10 at Juettner Motors in Alexandria from 8 a.m. to noon. If interested in volunteering or to donate a car, call (320) 460-7911.
