With the start of the new campaign year on July 1, the United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties announced this year's campaign chairs.

The chair for Douglas County is Carol Wenner, and the Pope County chair is Sara Stadtherr.

Wenner has been a long-time Douglas County resident. She worked as the membership coordinator for the Chamber of Commerce and has a good connection to the small and mid-size businesses in the community.

Wenner is also a member of the Inclusion Network, Lakes Area Professional Women, Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and has served as a volunteer for United Way, Habitat for Humanity and Nelson Gables.

"I am passionate about making life better for those around me," Wenner said. "I love to connect with people and help others connect to enrich their lives, their work and their community."

She and her husband, Bruce, are avid gardeners, and she enjoys fishing, reading and hiking.

The Pope County chair, Stadtherr is from Glenwood. "I love it here," she said, "and I want this community to look forward to the future. I want to be a leader to assist that in happening."

Stadtherr is currently employed by the Alexandria Area Hospitality Association. As a busy United Way volunteer, she has been involved in the Pope County Allocations Panel, Tom's Food Pride food stand, Beer and Wine Tasting, Taste of Oktoberfest and the LIVE UNITED breakfast.

What she likes most about United Way is that everyone is accountable and has to prove their accountability in order to receive funds.

Her community volunteer experiences include being on the board of the Alexandria Area Arts Association, chair of the Central Lakes Trail Committee, Girl Scout troop leader, the Lakes Area Professional Women leadership team and Big Ole Park Trailhead Development team.

She is a member of the Rotary, the ROAD marketing committee, and she and her family are members of Glenwood Lutheran Church.

Both women look forward to leading the 2013-14 United Way campaign in Douglas and Pope counties.
