Two crashes blocks apart send two to hospital

Two separate vehicle crashes happened blocks away from each other on 3rd Avenue in Alexandria last week.

A two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of 3rd Avenue East and Maple Street around 5:10 p.m. on Friday, June 21. One person was injured.

Devan Hennen, 49, of Alexandria, slowed down for a pedestrian crossing 3rd Avenue, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

Donna Rengo, 77, of Alexandria was stopped on the north side of the 3rd Avenue and Maple Street intersection. Hennen proceeded forward as Rengo was crossing the intersection. Rengo's passenger, Raymond Rengo, was injured in the crash. He was taken to the Douglas County Hospital where he was treated and released.

Alexandria Police Department and North Ambulance responded to the scene.

On Saturday, Andrew Rechtzigel, 29, of Alexandria, was injured in a crash near the intersection of 3rd Avenue East and Irving Street. The crash happened around 4:50 p.m.

Rechtzigel was in the southern-most lane on 3rd Avenue East when his motorcycle was struck by a Lincoln MKS sedan driven by Samuel Gargaro, 80, of St. Paul.

Both vehicles were eastbound on 3rd Avenue. The Alexandria Police Department reported that Gargaro turned left and did not see any oncoming traffic.

Rechtzigel was transported to Douglas County Hospital by North Ambulance. As of Tuesday morning, he remained hospitalized in stable condition.
