Stories from State Hospital to be presented in Fergus Falls
The Otter Tail County Historical Society's popular tour Myths & Legends: Stories from the State Hospital kicks off on Friday, May 17, at 5:30 p.m.
The tour begins in front of the 1890 West Detached ward and proceeds around the building. With its wonderous architecture as a backdrop, story tellers talk about the people, programs and events that comprise its history.
The State Hospital in Fergus Falls dominated the cultural and economic landscape of the region for decades. During that time it developed a mystique and aura that separated it from the general population. Stories of murder, suicide, experimental surgery and other horrors were common. Are these true, legend or both? Stories from the State Hospital is not an interior tour. It goes beyond the bricks and mortar to reveal why people are both afraid yet drawn to this institution.
Park in the Government Services parking lot and walk over to the western most part of the building. Admission is $6. Due to graphic content, the tour may not be suitable for young children. For more information contact the historical society at (218) 736-6038 or www.otchs.org.
