You can help United Way reach its goal

With three months left in this year's campaign, the United Way is asking for help to reach its 2012-13 campaign goal.

The United Way supports 25 agencies and 45 programs locally, helping to provide long-lasting change in community conditions around education, income and health.

The year alone (from July to March) United Way has:

--Sent more than 51,000 books to children from birth to age 5 through Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

--Supplied food for more than 6,970 people with more than 125,000 pounds during its monthly Mobile Food Drop.

--Delivered more than 9,000 bags of food to local schools through Backpack Attack.

--Given 686 backpacks filled with school supplies for children in Douglas and Pope counties through Stuff the Bus.

--Debuted the Traveling Tree House, serving more than 1,000 children with a mobile learning experience.

--Distributed 12,000 pounds of produce to people who did not have access to fresh produce through Plant an Extra Row.

--Assisted families during the holidays, allowing 791 children to receive gifts through Toys for Tots and Adopt a Family.

--Provided 159 seniors with a gift basket through Santa for Seniors.
