Motorists urged to watch for crews

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) reminds motorists to slow down and use caution when encountering crews doing maintenance and road repairs on area highways.

Pothole patching and crack sealing are necessary each spring during the freeze-thaw cycle.

Motorists need to be aware that a maintenance operation is a slow-moving work zone and that there may be multiple trucks and flaggers involved with lane closures.

Drivers are urged to slow down when approaching a maintenance operation, use caution and pass one truck at a time, being careful not to cross the centerline or drift over the fog line.

Motorists are also reminded of Minnesota's "Move Over Law." If motorists travel on a roadway with two or more lanes, they must stay one full lane away when passing stopped emergency or maintenance vehicles.

If motorists cannot move over, they should reduce their speeds.
