Free membership nights offered for Sweet Adelines chorus

The Alexienne Chorus of Alexandria (Sweet Adelines International) is offering a free performance opportunity practice this summer that will result in the opportunity to perform with the chorus in August.

Beginning July 10, women who like to sing are invited to come to as many as six Tuesday rehearsals at 6:30 p.m. in the Bethany Community Chapel located at 10th and Lark Street in Alexandria.

These free membership nights include the music, vocal production lessons, social time, and sharing the love of singing as well as learning about the international organization of barbershop singing for women, Sweet Adelines International.

This trial membership and summer performance opportunity does not obligate participants to any further commitment in the chorus. The performance date is Sunday, August 19, singing as special guest musicians in several Alexandria area churches for their morning services.

Sweet Adelines choruses feature ladies barbershop-style music in four parts: bass, baritone, lead and tenor. These are roughly the SATB equivalent in women's voices to alto/men's tenor range, contralto/men's baritone range, soprano and second soprano.

Music selections performed in barbershop-style range from pop and modern to country/folk and inspirational and nearly any genre of music in between.
