It may not have been another state championship for the Minnewaska Laker girls' golf team, but with just one senior on the team, a runner-up finish was pretty nice.

Detroit Lakes captured the Class AA girls' team title with an exceptional 619 as the Lakers had three of the top 10 individual finishes in the tourney, cruising to a 35-stroke win.

Minnewaska senior Brianna Janu finished third overall in the meet, 13 shots behind Detroit Lakes 8th grader Kate Smith, who claimed the individual title.

Janu's sister, Jenna, and Alexis Guggisberg tied for 10th in the tournament with two-day totals of 162, with Ellen Stensrud tying for 38th with a 178. Ashlyn Guggisberg finished tied for 46th with a 183 and Ariel Ostrander finished 87th with a 247.

Minnewaska holds the record for the most consecutive state championships - five - claiming the crown every year from 2006 to 2010. They still hold the record for the lowest tournament score of 610 set in 2009.
