Vehicle rolls over, catches fire near Grant-Douglas line
A driver and passenger, both from Alexandria, escaped serious injury after a one-vehicle rollover on Highway 79 near the Grant/Douglas county line early Monday morning.
Christopher Skuza, 23, was driving west on Highway 79 in a Chevrolet Blazer at about 5 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway, rolled and started on fire, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Skuza and his 38-year-old passenger, Stacie Villia, were able to get out of the burning Blazer.
Skuza fled the scene and was located about two hours later at a rural farm by the Evansville Fire Department. He was transported to the Douglas County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Villia was not injured.
They were both wearing seat belts.
Assisting the State Patrol were the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the Evansville Fire Department and Ashby Ambulance.
