New event combines construction with fashion
Looking for a fun way to spend an evening?
The Vikingland Builders Association (VBA) has just the ticket.
The VBA is going vogue with "Construction Couture."
The event is planned for Thursday, March 15 at the Broadway Ballroom in Alexandria. The show is open to the public and is a new fundraiser for the VBA, a professional trade association that has been serving the community and local building industry since 1991.
The show is designed to showcase the building industry in a new and creative way.
Students from Alexandria Technical and Community College's fashion management, interior design, marketing and construction site management programs are creating many of the fashions, but there are still opportunities for other entries.
A total of 21 unique creations incorporating building materials with fashion will be showcased. Costumes will be judged on Most Wearable, Raw Factor and Show Stopper.
The audience will also be asked to cast their ballot for People's Choice.
The show will not only bring attention to the local building industry, it will also help to raise funds and awareness for Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County (HFHDC).
The local affiliate will have a silent auction fundraiser at the event where attendees can bid on items to support the building of homes for families in need of safe, decent and affordable housing.
The VBA will also be donating a portion of the proceeds from the show to HFHDC.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for socializing, with the spotlight at 7 p.m. All ticket prices include hors de oeuvres; VIPs also receive two beverage coupons in the price of their ticket.
Ticket prices in advance are VIPs $45, General Admission $35 and Students are $25. Tickets are $5 more at the door. Tickets are available at Hilltop Lumber, Habitat for Humanity Douglas County, Ravnik Interior Design, Alexandria Title Company, Alex Brick & Stone and the Vikingland Builders Association office.
