Freezing rain this morning has left roads and sidewalks in the Alexandria area very icy.

As a result, Alexandria School District #206 is closed for the day. Students will be transported home beginning at noon after being fed lunch, according to an update issued by the school district.

The decision is based on current weather conditions and the forecast for future weather conditions.

According to the school district's website: "District 206 is cancelling school for students who are not at school due to icy road conditions. For students who are currently at school, the district will bring students home when the road conditions are safe. We anticipate it will be late morning or early afternoon."

There have been numerous reports of crashes in the area.

Use extreme caution if you must travel.
