Holiday Train to roll through Alexandria Wednesday

North America's longest running food pantry fundraiser will make a stop in Alexandria this Wednesday, December 14.

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is scheduled to stop at 12:45 p.m. at the 8th Avenue East/Nokomis Street railroad crossing by the Hubbard Feed Mill.

The Holiday Train features 14 rail cars decorated with hundreds of thousands of LED festival lights and other seasonally-themed embellishments.

One of the boxcars is also the setting for a live music show. This year, audiences will enjoy performances by veteran Milwaukee folk-rocker Willy Porter and Nashville country music recording artist Sydney Grigg. Santa Claus may also make an appearance.

Residents are encouraged to see the train, watch the performances and make a donation - cash or a non-perishable item - to support the food shelf. All food and money raised at each of the Holiday Train's stops will stay in that local community.

SInce 1999, the Holiday Train has entertained thousands while raising more than $5.6 million and generating more than 2.45 million pounds of food donations for local food shelves.
