Consumer representative needed on Minnesota Organic Advisory Task Force

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is seeking a consumer representative to fill a vacancy on the Minnesota Organic Advisory Task Force (OATF). The OATF advises the Commissioner of Agriculture and the University of Minnesota about policies and programs that will improve organic agriculture in Minnesota, including how available resources can most effectively be used for outreach, education, research, and technical assistance that meet the needs of the organic agriculture community.

"Consumer interest has driven the explosive growth of the organic agriculture sector," said Agriculture Commissioner Dave Frederickson. "Having a thoughtful person who represents the interests of consumers on this task force is tremendously important."

The consumer term expires June 30, 2012 and the member must be a resident of Minnesota. The task force meets three to four times a year. Members receive compensation for expenses, but no per diem.

Task force vacancies are filled through the state's open appointments process. The application form is available online at (select the Open Commissions Appointments option). Or call the Secretary of State's office at 651-297-5845. Commissioner Frederickson encourages applicants to submit a cover letter describing their interest and/or a brief resume along with their application.

The deadline to apply for this position is March 1, 2011. The new OATF member will be appointed by Commissioner Frederickson in consultation with the dean of University of Minnesota Extension, the director of the University of Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station, and the dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS).
