Douglas County 4-H'ers compete at state horse, dog shows

September is a busy month for Douglas County 4-Hers as they complete the 4-H year by competing at state events.

The 4-H State Horse Show was held at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum September 17-20.

Riding in the pleasure classes were: Trenton Coyer with the Hoofbeats 4-H Club of Osakis, Paige Gabrielson with the Hoofbeats 4-H Club of Alexandria, Grace Guyette with the Hoofbeats 4-H Club of Osakis and Angie Bowman with Fancy Farmers of Osakis.

Riding in the gaming classes were: Jenna Otto and Jordin Otto with Brandon Happy Knoll 4-H Club, and Amber Oberg with the Runestone 4-H Club of Hoffman.

Riding in the training classes was Brendon Coyer with the Hoofbeats 4-H Club of Osakis.

Placings were as follows:

Angela Bowman - 5th place, Western Pleasure, Grade 6-9.

Paige Gabrielson - 1st place, Western Showmanship, Grade 7; 10th place, Western Pleasure, Grade 7; 2nd place, Western Horsemanship, Grade 7; 1st place, Hunt Seat Pleasure, Grade 7; 3rd place, Hunt Seat Equitation, Grade 7; 4th place, Trail, Grade 6-7; and 6th place, Horse Related, Grade 6-8.

Jenna Otto - 4th place, Barrels, Grade 9; and 5th place, Poles, Grade 9.

Jordin Otto - 1st place, Jumping Figure 8, Grade 10; and 7th place, Key Race, Grade 10.

The 4-H State Dog show was held at the State Fairgrounds 4-H Building September 25-26.

Exhibiting were Brady Hoppe with Spruce Hill Rangers 4-H Club of Miltona, Kyle Reed with Contenders 4-H Club, Heidi Larson with Lucky Star 4-H Club of Alexandria, Marilla Paradee with Contenders 4-H Club of Osakis.

Placings were as follows:

Brady Hoppe - Champion, Obedience Beginner B, Grade 4; and Blue, Showmanship Open, Grade 4-5.

Heidi Larson - Blue, Agility, Jumpers 2, Grade 4-8.

Marilla Paradee - Blue, Open Showmanship, Grade 8; and Red, Obedience Graduate Beginner, Grade 7-8.

Kyle Reed - Blue, Showmanship Novice, Grade 6.
