Kites: Build. Fly. Win.

Want to go fly a kite?

Now you can, on August 28 in Evansville.

The Evansville Arts Coalition (EAC) recently received a grant from the Viking Library System through the Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Program to partner with the Douglas County Library and its bookmobile.

EAC plans to use these funds to sponsor a kite flying exhibition open to all residents of Douglas County of any age.

EAC encourages everyone to work with family members or friends and build a kite together.

Kite builders can fly their creations on Saturday, August 28 in the parking lot/field area south of the Evansville School.

If the weather or wind does not cooperate, the event will be rescheduled for the following day, Sunday, August 29.

On Saturday, August 28, participants must register their kites between 2 and 2:45 p.m. and also sign a waiver allowing EAC photographers to take pictures.

The EAC plans to display the kite photographs at the Evansville Art Center as well as at the Douglas County Library during the month of October.

All photos taken during this exhibition will remain the property of EAC and the Douglas County Library.

People can request a copy of their photos by filling out the required form.

The kites will be flown between 3 and 3:30 p.m. on that Saturday. Afterward, the EAC will award prizes for the smallest kite flown, the largest, the most continuous flight and the most artistic kite design.
