Festivals planned for Brandon, Forada and Parkers Prairie

Parades, kids' games, clowns, food and more can be found throughout the county next week.

Three of the small local towns are having their annual town festivals during the first week of August.

Whether near Brandon, Forada or Parkers Prairie, there will be fun-filled family activities to enjoy in these neighboring towns.

Here is a look at the schedule of events:


Wednesday, August 4

5 p.m. - Pork chop supper by Brandon Community Club at Lions Park.

6 to 9 p.m. - Live music by "Pure Country."

Saturday, August 7

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Craft show and quilt display at City Hall. Lunch available by Moe 4-H Club.

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Brandon History Center open at City Hall.

10:30 a.m. - Kiddie parade. Donations for the food shelf will be collected between parades. Donations should be brought to the parade route.

11 a.m. - Grand parade. Following the parade: Official kids' pedal tractor pull on the corner of Front Street and Nelson Avenue; ages 4 to 11. Trophies will be awarded. Adults' pedal tractor pull to follow.

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Petting zoo at City Park on Front Street.

12:30 p.m. - Firemen's water fights with area fire departments. This will take place by the Brandon Fire Hall.

1 p.m. - Free fingerprinting by Douglas County Sheriff's Office in the laundromat.

3:30 to 7 p.m. - Lions brat and hot dog meal at Lions Park. Bring used eyeglasses and hearing aids for Lions collection box.

7:30 p.m. - Lions raffle drawing at Lions Park.

9 p.m. to 1 a.m. - Annual firemen's street dance by City Hall. Music provided by "8th Hour."

Throughout the day, there will be softball and volleyball tournaments at the ball park.

Sunday, August 8

8 a.m. to noon - Knights of Columbus breakfast at St. Ann's Church.

Softball and volleyball tournaments will continue at the ball park.


Friday August 6

9 p.m. to 1 a.m. - "Echoplane" at the Muddy Boot.

Saturday August 7

8 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Flea market.

10 a.m. - Firemen's water wars.

12:30 p.m. - Kiddies' parade. The grand parade will follow. After the grand parade, there will be the kid bike drawing sponsored by the Forada Fire Department.

2 to 4 p.m. - Many children's games including turtle races, water balloon battle, cow milking contest, minnow races, pony hops, bounce castle and Giggles the Clown.

2 to 4 p.m. - Bingo.

2 to 6 p.m. - Lions pork chop feed.

4:30 to 5:30 p.m. - Bohemian tractor pull.

9 p.m. to 1 a.m. - Street dance featuring "Nasty Habit."

There will be antique snowmobiles on display on day.

Sunday August 8

10 a.m. - Pedal pull.

8 a.m. to noon - First Responder Dad's Belgian Waffle Breakfast.

Parkers Prairie

Friday August 6

All day - Crafts.

7 p.m. - Parkers Prairie queen pageant at the elementary school gym (free admission with Fall Fest button or the cost is $4).

9 p.m. - Teen dance (Fall Fest button is admission).

Saturday, August 7

Throughout the day - crafters, retailers, bingo, beer garden and food in the park.

Noon to 8 p.m. - Kids' games including three-legged race, pie eating contest, tug-o-war, minnow races and more.

5 p.m. - Kiddie parade.

8 p.m. to 12 a.m. - Street dance featuring "Hometown O."

Dusk - Fireworks.

Sunday, August 8

7 to 11 a.m. - Boy Scouts pancake breakfast at the Prairie Event Center.

8 a.m. - Classic vehicle show at the city park. (See related story.)

10 a.m. - Crafters, retailers, bingo, pony rides, beer garden, and food in the park throughout the day.

Noon - Parade.

2 p.m. - Children's tractor pull.

2 to 4 p.m. - Classic song and dance review at the City Park.

4 p.m. - Fire department water wars at the liquor store parking lot.
