Klein was arrested by a Minnesota State Patrol trooper after she failed field sobriety tests and submitted to a preliminary breath test, which showed an alcohol concentration of 0.188. According to the criminal complaint, she was taken by the trooper to Paynesville Area Hospital where a blood sample was taken.

According to the complaint, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Klein allegedly admitted to driving the van and that she was coming from Eden Valley, tried to avoid the bike and was not sure if she had hit them.
