Trucks crash near Garfield, spilling corn, causing injuries
Two trucks crashed near Garfield Monday morning, spilling corn on the road and causing minor injuries.
The accident happened at the intersection of County Roads 40 and 8 at about 10:35 a.m.
It involved a semi and box trailer driven by John Craig Wiley, 54, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and a pickup pulling a gravity box full of corn driven by Kenneth Albert Zeithamer, 73, of Farwell.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office preliminary investigation showed that Wiley was traveling west on County Road 8 and collided with the side of Zeithamer's pickup that was traveling north on County Road 40.
The pickup rolled into the northwest ditch and the gravity box spilled corn before coming to rest against a power pole.
Zeithamer was treated at the scene by North Ambulance for minor injuries.
Other responding units included the sheriff's office, State Patrol, and Garfield Fire and First Responders.
The crash remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the State Patrol's Commercial Vehicle Division.
