Scott Dirkes files for Todd County Sheriff

Todd County General Investigator, Scott Dirkes, is seeking his first term as Todd County Sheriff in the election this fall. He's running against incumbent Sheriff Peter Mikkelson.

Dirkes, a lifetime resident of Todd County, has served more than 24 years as a peace officer in the state of Minnesota. His experience includes serving as a patrolman for the city of Glenwood, a dispatcher/jailer for Todd County, running Todd County's boat and water program, 13 years as a road deputy, two and a half years as a covert narcotics investigator, and the past six years as a general investigator.

Dirkes has been a department firearms instructor, field training officer, and union steward for Law Enforcement Labor Services.

He is involved with the community, serving youth through the National Wild Turkey Federation and as a volunteer fishing guide. He has also conducted youth firearm safety and snowmobile safety courses. Dirkes is a long standing member of the Sauk Centre Conservation Club, National Wild Turkey Federation, and an organizer and member of the Sauk Centre Toys for Tots fundraiser.

As sheriff, Dirkes said he would focus on interacting with all communities and community leaders within Todd County. Other goals include building morale within the sheriff's office and improving interdepartmental communications and accountability. He intends to be fiscally responsible, prevent career criminals from endangering the residents of Todd County, and to take a pro-active approach toward covert drug investigations.

In addition, Dirkes said he'd work to improve the working relationship with law enforcement agencies within, and outside of, Todd County, and address the need for developing long-term goals for providing public safety.

Dirkes currently lives near Grey Eagle with his wife, Stephanie, and their four step-daughters. He enjoys family activities, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and softball.
