Five injured in crash near Garfield

Five people suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash near Garfield Sunday.

The accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of County Roads 8 and 40, two miles south of Garfield. The drivers were William Grimes of Apple Valley and Erika Peterson of Carlos.

Grimes' vehicle overturned about two and a half times, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

North Ambulance transported five people to the Douglas County Hospital - both drivers; a rear-seat passenger in Peterson's vehicle, Carrine Larson, 5 of Carlos; a front-seat passenger in Grimes' vehicle, Kelly Grimes of Apple Valley; and a rear-seat passenger in Grimes' vehicle, Kathy Larson of Apple Valley.

All of the victims in the crash were properly restrained, which lessened the extent of the injuries and perhaps even saved lives, according to authorities.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
