Minnesota Commissioner of Health Dr. Sanne Magnan presented a plaque to Douglas County Commissioner Bev Bales on December 11 in recognition of her service as 2009 chair of the State Community Health Services Advisory Committee (SCHSAC).

SCHSAC is a 53-member committee that advises the commissioner of health on matters relating to the development, funding and evaluation of community health services in Minnesota.

Magnan said that, "Bev Bales brought great energy and enthusiasm to her role as SCHSAC chair. I greatly appreciated her leadership during a year that required a high degree of coordination between state and local governments."

Bales said local health departments and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) made great strides in 2009.

"Local health departments and MDH really stepped up to the plate to work together on a number of important issues, including the H1N1 outbreak, budget challenges and a new statewide initiative to improve the health of Minnesotans," Bales said. "All Minnesotans should be proud that we have such strong public health leadership in this state. I was proud to have served as chair the past year."
