Bemidji woman struck as pedestrian in Wadena County

Felicity Nyaronge, 21, of Bemidji, was struck at about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 71 north of Sebeka, Minn., as she stood alongside the roadway, according to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol out of Detroit Lakes.

Nyaronge suffered a leg fracture and was taken to Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, Minn., the State Patrol reported. A Tri-County Hospital spokeswoman said today that it does not release condition reports on its patients.

Nyaronge emerged from her vehicle after putting it in the ditch along Highway 71 and went to the roadway, where a passerby heading north stopped in the southbound lane to talk with her, the State Patrol reported.

Francine Leritz, 37, of Menahga, Minn., was headed south in a 2001 Dodge Intrepid when she saw the vehicle in her lane facing north. Thinking she was in the wrong lane due to the snow covering the roadway, Leritz swerved to the right to avoid the passerby's vehicle and subsequently struck Nyaronge, the State Patrol reported. Leritz was not injured.
