Status upgraded for Alexandria man injured in six-car crash on Interstate 94
An Alexandria man critically injured in a six-vehicle crash Sunday night has been upgraded to fair condition at St. Cloud Hospital.
Thomas Hoffman, 56, of Alexandria was injured when he got out of his car after the crash happened. It took place on Interstate 94 near mile marker 143 in Stearns County.
The accident took place about 40 miles southeast of Alexandria near Freeport shortly before 7 p.m. December 7.
According to the State Patrol, a vehicle pulling a trailer with reindeer inside went off the road and the deer reportedly escaped. One of the deer got hit, which caused a chain reaction of crashes.
Hoffman reportedly got out of his vehicle and was trying to help with the reindeer when a vehicle struck him, according to the State Patrol.
The other drivers involved in the crash included Heidi Roering, 27, of St. Joseph; Scott Merrick, 36, of Dundee, New York; Shanna Wherry, 22, of Buffalo (she was treated and released); Donald Klatt, 45, of Holloway; and Genna Ironi, 20, of Sauk Centre.
No other injuries were reported.
