A night to shine

Registration has begun for Night to Shine, a prom night on Feb. 9 for people with special needs.

"It's a huge, huge event that's done nationwide," said Jane McCrery, one of the organizers.

As it has in previous years, New Life Christian Church will host the event, which is sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. More than 450 churches around the world will take part.

Every guest at Night to Shine enters the event on a red carpet. They are treated to hair and makeup stations, shoe shines, limousine rides, corsages and boutonnieres, a catered dinner, karaoke and a dance floor. Each guest is crowned king or queen of the prom.

The organization provides free dresses and suits for all participants, with a free shopping night set for Saturday, Jan. 27. Last year, 130 guests arrived for the Alexandria event, McCrery said.

To register or volunteer for the event, visit the church's website at www.your-newlife.com, and click on Night to Shine at the top of the page.
