Alexandria Community Education has received a $3,000 grant to connect artists with community members who wish to learn more about their work.
The funding, announced Wednesday, Dec. 20, will help community education present its first-ever "Fine Art Exhibit and Makerspace" from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, March 24, at Alexandria Area High School.
Community members will meet local artists and see examples of their work, and then explore the medium with the artist through hands-on activities. This activity aims to promote greater curiosity and lifelong learning of the various art forms. The event will conclude with a public performance showcasing musical and theatrical artists.
The award came through the Lake Region Arts Council's fall round of grant making. It was part of $12,257 awarded to six projects throughout a nine-county region. Other projects included a dance performance, traditional Swedish folk music and a ceramic artist residency.
Next, the council will award its spring project grants. Deadline for applications is midnight Tuesday, February 6.
