55-plus driver course set for Alexandria, Parkers Prairie
Drivers age 55 and up in Alexandria and Parkers Prairie can brush up on their skills in January when the Minnesota Highway Safety Center offers its four-hour 55-plus Driver Improvement Course in each city.
The Parkers Prairie course will take place from 6-10 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Parkers Prairie High School, 411 S. Otter Ave.
The Alexandria course will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, at Grand Arbor Senior Residence, 4403 Pioneer Road SE.
Instructors provide the latest information about driver safety, new laws, and vehicle technology. The Driver Improvement course costs $22. It is open to the public; pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, visit www.mnsafetycenter.org or call 888-234-1294.
Those age 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law. First-time participants must complete an initial eight hours of training and a four-hour refresher class every three years to maintain the discount.
