Mount Carmel hosts performance
A Mount Carmel pastor will deliver a message Sunday morning, but it won't be in the form of a sermon.
Pastor Jonathan Swenson will perform a solo, multiple-character theatrical performance that Mount Carmel calls a "piece of hope and encouragement."
The performance is titled, "Visiting Hours," is an uplifting story about those who care for others personally and professionally. Swenson will perform at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 22, at Mount Carmel Family Camp and Retreat Center, 800 Mount Carmel Drive, Alexandria.
Swenson is the director of programming at Mount Carmel and the founder of Paraphrase Theatre, which shares Biblical stories and truths. During the winter, he shares his unique blend of drama storytelling and teaching at churches and conferences across the country.

Lynn Stoneking will return to Alexandria at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 23, this time with her whole band, to perform at Mount Carmel Ministries Camp and Conference Center, 800 Mount Carmel Drive NE.
The band will share an evening of music and faith reflections. Drawing from many influences, Stoneking incorporates elements of gospel, blues, rock, and more into a meaningful night of worship.
New pastor at Lake Community
An installation service for Jon Ewton, new senior pastor at Lake Community Church, will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 29.
"We are truly excited to introduce Pastor Jon Ewton, both to Lake Community and to the community of Alexandria as a whole," said Ron Moore, chairman of the church's Pastoral Search Committee.
A special welcome reception will be held after the worship service at Lake Community Church, where guests will have the opportunity to meet and greet Ewton and his wife, Katherine. Over the past 20 years, he has held various leadership positions within Christian ministry, including juvenile prison ministry, young men's ministry and student ministry. His most recent position was as senior associate pastor at Christ Fellowship in Texas.
"We are extremely excited to be a part of a healthy and growing church," Ewton said. "We
believe the Lord has done amazing ministry with this community of believers and has big plans in store for the future."
Ewton has been leading Lake Community Church since July 1. The July 29 installation service will serve as a formal acceptance of his call to be its pastor.
Lake Community Church is a member of the Evangelical Free Church of America. Worship services are held Sundays at 9 and 10:30 a.m. at 490 Voyager Drive.
Shipwrecked is Bible school theme
New Life Christian Church will offer a free Vacation Bible School from 6:15-8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 29, to Thursday, Aug. 2.
The theme is "Shipwrecked," and its open to children from preschool through sixth grade.
Pre-registration isn't required, but it is preferred, and can be done by calling 320-763-7051. THe church is at 1910 County Road 82 SE in Alexandria.
