Cy the comedy guy
Most people would find hitting multiple deer in one night to be a disaster. But for comedian Cy Amundson, the situation has the makings of a good joke.
"I recently hit four deer on one nine-mile stretch of road, which was insanity," he said. "But then the next day I was like, 'Well, that's going to be the funniest joke I've ever written.'"
Amundson is originally from Alexandria and will be performing a comedy show at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center on Saturday, March 11.
For the past five years, Amundson has lived in Los Angeles. His work has been featured on "Conan," Adam Devine's "House Party," "Family Guy," "American Dad" and Comedy Central's "This is Not Happening."
Though now on the West Coast, Amundson got his start at Acme Comedy Club in Minneapolis.
"Acme Comedy Club is a lot like college for comedy," he said. "Every Monday they'd have open mic and every Monday I was working, watching, getting better, failing miserably."
Amundson says that though sometimes it may be difficult to pursue a dream as a career, he has learned how to separate the two.
"I think often with entertainment careers, they're so closely tied to your dreams," Amundson said. "So when your job isn't going well, your dreams aren't going well, and when your dreams aren't going well, your life isn't going well. So early on I learned to separate. I put a lot of effort into it. I care about it a lot, but I separate it."
Opening for Amundson will be Bryan Miller, a comedian from Minneapolis who has been on the Late Show with Craig Ferguson. The show's host will be Rox Tarrant, a comedienne from Alexandria.
"We're all very different," Amundson said. "I think it will be a good mix of comedy."
According to Amundson, the show is not suitable for those younger than age 16. A social hour will take place before the show, at 7 p.m. The show will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling (218) 943-2251. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
