Concert to showcase Alexandria jazz ensembles

The Alexandria Music Program will hold its annual spring jazz concert on Monday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jefferson High School (JHS) gym in Alexandria. Four ensembles will perform, including the Discovery Middle School (DMS) Jazz Ensemble and the JHS Jazz I, Jazz II and Jazz Combo.

A variety of jazz standards and contemporary settings will be performed. All of the ensembles have attended festivals over the past three months.

DMS Jazz gave a performance at the University of Minnesota, Morris Jazz Festival on April 4.

They had the opportunity to work with professional musicians in a clinic setting.

The JHS groups have performed extensively this year at concerts, solo and ensemble contest and at the Bemidji Jazz Festival on February 7.

At solo and ensemble festival, the Jazz Combo was awarded the outstanding performance award for the day.
