Learn the basics of working a camera Learn how to work a camera in Community Education’s hands-on Basic Photography class on Tuesday, January 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Discovery Middle School in Alexandria. Cost is $19.

Attendees will work with a camera’s basic functions such as exposure, white balance and ISO. They will receive tips for portraits, kid shots, indoor variations, actions, lighting and much more.

Bring a camera, tripod (if you have one), manual, charged batteries and a memory card.

Instructor Mark Weise is a professional photographer.

Get the know-how with Android smartphone basics Community Education’s Android Smartphone Basics class will start with the basic phone operations and slowly work up to some of the extra features Android has to offer.

Class will be held Wednesday, January 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Jefferson High School in Alexandria. Cost is $19.

Learn to make phone calls and send text and photo messages; check notifications; set up, receive and send e-mails; and customize your phone and home screen to make them easier to use.

Also learn about apps, programs, widgets, the differences among them and much more.
