Child development conference set October 12
The annual Caring for Kids and Those Who Care child development conference will be held on Saturday, October 12 at Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC). The keynote session will feature Thomas Haller, MDiv., LMSW, ACSW, CMFSW, DST.
Haller is a parenting and relationship expert, the co-author of seven books, a psychotherapist maintaining a private practice for 22 years as a child, adolescent and couples therapist, and a sex therapist.
Haller has a Master of Divinity degree, Master of Social Work degree and a doctorate in child and family studies. He is a certified master forensic social worker, a certified sex therapist, a certified biofeedback technician and a certified sports counselor.
Haller is the chief parenting and relationship correspondent to WNEM TV 5 (CBS affiliate), and WCRZ 107.9FM. Haller, with his wife, Valerie, also co-hosts a radio show on National Public Radio (NPR), The Thomas and Valerie Show.
Haller’s keynote will address the link that exists between the words adults speak and the attitudes and outcomes children create in their lives.
Two breakout sessions will offer topics such as:
• The essential elements of praise.
• Safety net.
• Intro to American Sign Language.
• Music, development, learning and fun.
• Let’s move (parent aware course).
• Communication strat-egies in early childhood.
A certificate for six clock hours or .6CEUs is available. Breakfast, lunch and vendors will also be part of the day’s agenda. JZ Fire Extinguisher services will be available to service the fire extinguishers.
