Scholarships and Honors


Kristi Schaffer, daughter of Doug and Deb Schaffer of Brandon, received the North Dakota State University (NDSU) Roland and Leon Currie Scholarship in the amount of $700. Schaffer is a junior majoring in agribusiness and minoring in business administration. She is active in College of Agriculture Ambassadors and Saddle and Sirloin. She is also Blue Key National Honor Society president and Collegiate Farm Bureau recruitment chair.

St. Cloud State University student Abigail Erlandson of Alexandria was awarded a Diana and Robert Carter Scholarship for Freshmen Business Students in the amount of $750 each semester for fall 2013 and spring 2014. The scholarship was established to assist entering freshmen or transfer students majoring in business. It may be renewed for three years if the student maintains a grade point average of 3.0 or better.


The following students were recognized at St. Olaf College's Honors Day convocation, which recognizes students who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.6 or higher.

Alexandria: Marit Aaseng, studio art, psychology, daughter of Grant and Ruth Aaseng; Catherine Lovrien, social work, daughter of Martin and Judith Lovrien; Leah Stinson, undecided, daughter of David and Denise Stinson.

The following students were named to the spring 2013 dean's list at South Dakota State University in Brookings for earning at least a 3.5 grade point average and completing a minimum of 12 credits.

Alexandria: Tara Van Hout, College of Education and Human Science; Eric Maloney, College of Engineering; Emily Wilkins, College of Nursing, 4.0.
