Another season launches at Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum
Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum (MLMM) in Alexandria will launch its 2013 season on Friday, May 17 with a special exhibit dedicated to all things lakes.
The Celebration of Arts collection will feature offerings from the museum, as well as pieces from the local Brush and Palette Club. Club members will display a variety of paintings depicting lakes, families, cabins, memories and lakeside living.
In addition, local potter Sue Seltz of Alexandria developed a line of pottery with a lake influence. Seltz's jewelry work will also be part of the new collection. The handcrafted pieces will feature the lake and water theme.
All of the artwork exhibited in the collection will be available for purchase.
To celebrate the museum's Maritime Gardens and all who helped establish the space, MLMM will host a Summer Solstice Kick-Off on Friday, June 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. The community is invited to explore the ongoing gardens project and meet the people involved in the project and the community members who have supported it.
During the winter, MLMM welcomed two people to its staff: Mary Mische and Wendy Watts. In addition to her front office duties, Mische serves as the museum's volunteer coordinator. Watts works with the museum's daily finances and helps with marketing events.
MLMM also recently welcomed two new board members: Dr. Duane Rost of Youngstown University, retired, and Dr. Terry Quist of Alexandria Public Schools, retired.
In addition, three of MLMM's board members recently completed their terms: Jim Aamadt of Edina, Jim Blackburn of Minnetonka and Eileen Eiser of Alexandria.
