Alexandria represented at Chanhassen concert
Four Alexandria students, including Carl Branch, French horn; Matt Bittman, baritone saxophone; Isabelle Hartokolis, French horn; and Jack Anderson, tenor saxophone, recently participated in the Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA) State Honor Bands.
The honor bands performed in concert on Sunday, April 21 at Chanhassen High School. To be selected to the honor bands is one of the highest honors any band student can attain in Minnesota.
More than 500 musicians submitted a recorded audition that consisted of scales and etudes. Students participating in the honor bands had the opportunity to work with some of the state's finest music educators as their section coaches and conductors.
Conductors for the honor bands were Dr. Peter Haberman from Concordia College, Moorhead, 9th-10th grade honor band, and Dr. Robert Ouren, former high school band director at Edina, 6th-8th grade honor band.
The honor band program is an ongoing project of MBDA, a professional organization of band directors representing band programs of all grade levels from throughout the state of Minnesota.
The mission of MBDA is to assist in the development of band directors and band programs in schools, colleges and communities throughout Minnesota.
