Central Square Cultural and Civic Center in Glenwood received an Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy grant to present a special event for families and people of all ages.

On Sunday, March 24, Central Square will host a ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee), a traditional community celebration practiced by people of Scottish and Irish ancestry in the Cape Breton area of Nova Scotia.

The event will be held in the gym, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with an Irish meal of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and peas, Scottish hot dogs, salad, scones, soda bread and dessert.

Following the meal at 6:30 p.m., Northern Gael, a trio of musicians from the Twin Cities consisting of Laura MacKenzie, wooden flutes; Danielle Enblom, fiddle; and Ross Sutter, guitar, will perform Celtic music for the concert and the dancing.

Enblom is an award-winning Irish dance teacher and will show people of all ages the steps and style of Sean-nós dancing, similar to circle and square dancing.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for students in grades K-12. The price includes the meal, music and dancing.

To sign up for the meal, call Central Square at (320) 634-0400 or 1-866-497-0400. Tickets will also be available at the door.
