American Cancer Society to host Relay for Life kickoff event January 10

The American Cancer Society is inviting Douglas County residents to be members of a Relay for Life team in 2011. The Relay for Life is an opportunity for the community to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors, remember those lost to cancer and fight back against the disease.

It involves teams with up to 15 people and is open to anyone who would like to join the fight against cancer. Teams are one of the most critical elements of the relay.

For 2011, the Relay For Life of Douglas County is set for Friday, July 8 at Citizens Field at Jefferson High School in Alexandria.

To learn more about the Relay For Life and how to participate, attend the Relay For Life kickoff on Monday, January 10 in the lobby meeting room at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria at 6 p.m. If you have a team established, attend the kickoff to register for the 2011 relay.

For information about forming a team or being part of a team, visit the website; e-mail or; or call Cindy at (320) 491-1508 or Cheryl at (320) 304-4553.

Consider forming a team this year to help the American Cancer Society save lives and create more birthdays by helping people stay well, get well, by finding cures and fighting back.
