Work begins on new elementary school

A groundbreaking ceremony took place at the site of the new elementary school on County Road 46 Friday afternoon. School administrators, staff and school board members, city and county officials, community members, architectural representatives and students attended the groundbreaking, which included comments from Terry Quist, District 206 superintendent; Dean Anderson, school board chair; Donna Gohman, long-time teacher at Washington Elementary School; Connie Good, Early Childhood Family Education coordinator; and Dan Ness, Alexandria mayor. Bud Peterson, who donated the land to the school district, was also present and was given a personalized hard hat from the district.
