Maps on display at the Pope County Museum

The Pope County Museum in Glenwood will host the "Minnesota on the Map" exhibit November 16 through January 16.

The traveling exhibit is on loan from the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul and will be traveling to venues throughout Minnesota.

It features dozens of maps ranging from Louis Hennepin's 1683 map of the upper Mississippi River Valley to a satellite map of Minnesota produced by NASA.

The exhibit features 23 reproduction maps and atlases, a video station with commentary by local historians and a bin of laminated maps.

An oversized jigsaw puzzle map of the state will provide an engaging element for young visitors.

The exhibit draws from the extensive map collection of the Minnesota Historical Society and is based on the book "Minnesota on the Map: A Historical Atlas" by David Lanegran.

The Minnesota Historical Society Traveling Exhibits program has been made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission to the museum is adults $3, students $1.50, children ages 6-12 50 cents and children ages 5 and younger are free.

Admission to the museum and exhibit will be free Tuesday, November 29 to Saturday, December 3 as part of its annual Christmas open house and silent auction. Bid on Holiday baskets while visiting the museum.
