There’s nothing better than ice cream on a hot summer day. That ice cream will be a little easier to get this summer, thanks to a new tricycle.
Shon Munn will be selling ice cream around Alexandria from his new business on wheels, called Street Dreamz.
He’ll be selling a variety of ice cream and Greek yogurt novelty items; prices range from $1 to $2.
Munn will be selling at City Park in Alexandria, along the bike trail and in local neighborhoods. He will also be at events, such as parades, baseball games, and Awake the Lakes Ribfest.
So far, in its first three weeks, Street Dreamz has been successful, he said.
Munn said he has received positive feedback from both kids and adults.
“I didn’t think people would be so excited about it,” Munn said. “I was surprised.”
While ice cream trucks are the more traditional way of selling ice cream on the streets, Munn’s ice cream tricycle has been a hit with children as well.
“As soon as I ring the bell, every kid that I’ve come across is just like, ‘Ice cream!’ They know it right away.”
Munn hopes to have a Facebook page in the near future that will allow people to request him to come to parties or other events.
Munn has been in the restaurant industry for 20 years. His first job was at Ground Round in Bismarck, North Dakota when he was 14.
Since then, he has worked at numerous other restaurants and attended culinary school in Portland, Oregon.
He currently works at Raapers in Alexandria.
“My dream is to open a restaurant,” said Munn.
He said he feels that starting and running this small business will be good experience to help him reach that goal.
“It’s like a free business education,” he said with a laugh.
