Alexandria Toastmasters to start evening group

The Alexandria Area Toastmasters will begin an evening group, with its first meeting on Thursday, November 21.

A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. It meets once a week for an hour.

There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations.

Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure.

Members learn communication skills by working on a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking.

Membership is $36 every six months (club dues may vary).

The Alexandria Area Evening Toastmasters will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at Glenwood State Bank in Alexandria.

The Alexandria Area Noon Toastmasters meet from noon to 1 p.m. on the first and third Fridays of the month at Glenwood State Bank in Alexandria.
