Theatre L'Homme Dieu hosts residency

Theatre L’Homme Dieu (TLHD) in Alexandria is gearing up for its first artist residency.

A group of Twin Cities performers, including two students from the St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, will launch a five-month rehearsal of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard at TLHD.

The public is invited to attend any of the daily rehearsals Monday through Wednesday, August 11-13.

A staged reading, performed with script in hand, will be held Wednesday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m. Act I will be performed in the Lodge, while Act II will move outside under the canopy of trees.

Guests are invited to bring a picnic and their own seating to the second half of the performance. Beverages will be available for purchase.

The fully staged production will be performed in St. Paul the first two weeks of December.

The actors and directors will host a Lunchtime Masterclass on Thursday, August 14 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Lodge. Attendees will sit down with them to discuss the business of theater, acting, Chekhov and more. Attendees should bring a lunch.

Rehearsal schedules will be posted daily on, as well as on TLHD’s Facebook and Twitter.

The cost of the Lunchtime Masterclass, daily rehearsals, and staged reading are free, but free will donations will be accepted.

Reservations for the staged reading are recommended, as space is limited. To reserve a spot, contact the box office during regular business hours at (320) 846.3150.
